.Historic landmark cottage - own a original piece of Grayton Beach history -The Shepherd Cottage aka 'Sugar Shack.' This cottage is an excellent example of the 'Hall and Parlor' house which was utilized in Grayton in the early years. The house was originally lived in by mill workers in Poley, AL, and was moved to the Beach (situated just behind, south of the Butler's 'Old Store'(now Red Bar site ) by W.J. Shepherd. The family used the cottage there for years, with Shepherd's daughter composing a book of poetry that was published while she was living there.The property was purchased in the 70's by well known, local entrepreneurs and then became known as the 'Sugar Shack'.
